Separate work and personal Codex accounts.

Keep the boundary visible

Name one profile Work and the other Personal, or use the company name when you manage more than one organization. The label should tell you which policy and billing context applies.

Codex Switcher marks the selected account in the Mac menu bar. Check that mark before you open a company repository or start a personal project.

Follow the account that owns the work

Use the company-managed account for company work. Your employer or workspace administrator may control retention, access, and other rules attached to that account.

Use the personal account for your own projects and purchases. Switching does not move a chat, workspace, subscription, or file from one account to another.

• Label profiles by responsibility.
• Check the active profile before opening sensitive work.
• Remove old company access when you no longer need it.

Save work before switching

Finish or pause the current task before changing accounts. A running task may still depend on the account context it started with.

After the switch, confirm the check mark and start the next task. A repeatable pause, switch, confirm routine takes less time than repairing work created under the wrong identity.

Keep usage separate too

Each account carries its own plan and usage status. A work limit and a personal limit do not combine. Read usage under the account name it belongs to.

Codex Switcher shows available local status but cannot change OpenAI limits. If an account reaches a limit, use the options OpenAI provides for that account.
